1. Understanding Aukilo

What is Aukilo?

Aukilo is an independent app that helps you compare the prices of everyday products based on their price per kilo, per liter or per unit.

The idea is simple: the price displayed in big print on the label isn’t always enough to know whether a product is really worthwhile. Two formats may seem close, but turn out very different once converted to per kilo or per liter.

Aukilo helps make these gaps visible.

What is Aukilo for?

Aukilo is for better understanding what you’re really paying.

With the app, you can scan a product in store, search for a product from home, compare different formats, spot multipacks that are less advantageous than they look, track the evolution of a price per kilo and contribute to a price database enriched by the community.

The goal isn’t to decide for you, but to give you clearer information before you buy.

Does Aukilo sell products?

No.

Aukilo doesn’t sell any product. The app is neither a store, nor a marketplace, nor a drive, nor a manufacturer, nor a reseller.

Purchases always happen with the store, drive, online retailer or seller concerned. Aukilo displays comparison information and decision-making aids.

Is Aukilo affiliated with stores or brands?

No.

Aukilo is independent from stores, brands, manufacturers and distributors.

Brand, product or store names may appear in the app only to identify products, compare prices, allow users to contribute or report errors.

This doesn’t mean those brands or stores approve, fund or endorse Aukilo.

Can a store pay to be ranked higher?

No.

No store, brand, manufacturer or distributor can pay Aukilo to be displayed as cheaper, artificially change a ranking, hide an unfavorable comparison or influence the results displayed in the app.

Aukilo ranks and compares information based on available data, not on commercial agreements with stores.

2. Prices and data sources

Where do the prices shown in Aukilo come from?

The prices shown in Aukilo can come from several sources:

  • user contributions;
  • label photos;
  • receipts;
  • prices available on drives;
  • promotional catalogs;
  • open databases;
  • public sources;
  • automated processes used to group or verify some data.

These prices are provided for indicative purposes only.

The price displayed in the store, at checkout, on the drive or on the store’s website remains the only authoritative price at the moment of purchase.

Are the prices verified?

Prices are maintained mainly thanks to the community.

Users can declare a price, confirm information or flag an error. Aukilo can also cross-check several sources, like contributions, drives, catalogs or open data.

Despite this, a price may be wrong, outdated, incomplete or different from the price actually applied in store. That’s why every user can flag an error directly from the app.

Why can a price be different in store?

A price can vary for many reasons:

  • different store;
  • different geographic area;
  • different date;
  • stock available or not;
  • local promotion;
  • loyalty card;
  • drive price different from in-store price;
  • label error;
  • catalog change;
  • outdated user contribution;
  • difference between shelf-displayed price and price applied at checkout.

Aukilo tries to make this information more readable, but cannot guarantee that the price displayed in the app will always match the price seen at the moment of purchase.

Which price is authoritative?

The only authoritative price is the one displayed or applied by the store, drive, online retailer or store at the moment of purchase.

In case of a gap between Aukilo and the price at checkout, the store or seller’s price prevails.

Aukilo cannot be held liable for a difference between a price displayed in the app and the price actually paid.

Are prices updated in real time?

No, not necessarily.

Prices are updated when new data is published, for example via a user contribution, information from a drive, a catalog or an available source.

Aukilo doesn’t guarantee real-time updates of all prices, products, promotions or stores.

How do I report a wrong price?

From the product page, you can use the Report button.

You can specify the reason for the report, for example:

  • wrong price;
  • wrong product;
  • wrong store;
  • product not available;
  • wrong format;
  • outdated price;
  • expired promotion.

These reports help the community improve data quality.

Why don’t some stores or products appear?

Aukilo is built progressively with available data and user feedback.

A store or product may not appear because it hasn’t been referenced yet, because no reliable data is available, or because it hasn’t been enriched by the community yet.

The more users scan, contribute and report, the more complete the database becomes.

Why are some prices missing?

A price may be missing when no known data is available for that product, store, format or area.

In that case, the community can enrich the database by adding a first contribution. Once the price is declared, information may start appearing depending on location, product and available data.

Are Aukilo prices contractual?

No.

Prices shown in Aukilo are indicative. They help compare, but don’t constitute a commercial offer from Aukilo.

The price in store, at checkout, on the drive or on the store’s website remains the only authoritative price.

3. Price per kilo, per liter or per unit

Why compare per kilo?

Because the price displayed in big print on the label isn’t always enough to compare correctly.

A 400 g pack at €3 may seem cheaper than a 1 kg pack at €6, but the price per kilo can tell a different story. The price per kilo allows several formats to be brought back to a common comparison basis.

It’s particularly useful for comparing multipacks, family formats, small packagings, promos or similar products sold in different quantities.

Does the price per kilo say everything?

No.

The price per kilo says nothing about taste, quality, origin, composition, format convenience or the risk of waste.

A small format may be more expensive per kilo but more suitable for your usage. A large format may be cheaper per kilo but useless if you only consume part of it.

The price per kilo doesn’t replace your choice. It simply gives you a clearer comparison basis.

What’s the difference between displayed price and real price?

In Aukilo, we sometimes use "real price" to refer to the price brought back to a comparable unit: kilo, liter or unit.

The displayed price is the one you see on the shelf, for example €2.99.

The price per kilo indicates what that product costs at a comparable quantity, for example €7.48/kg.

It’s this second figure that allows comparison of two different formats.

Why does Aukilo group several packagings?

Because the same product may exist in several formats: small pack, large format, 3-pack, family pack, old version, new packaging, drive format, etc.

Traditional comparators may sometimes treat these packagings as totally different products. Aukilo tries to group them to show a more useful comparison: which format is cheapest per kilo, per liter or per unit?

How does Aukilo compare two different formats?

Aukilo brings products back to the same unit of measurement.

For example:

  • two pasta packs will be compared per kilo;
  • two bottles will be compared per liter;
  • two multipacks of capsules or doses can be compared per unit.

This allows comparison of different formats without being guided only by the displayed price or packaging.

Is the cheapest per kilo always the best choice?

Not necessarily.

The cheapest per kilo may be interesting, but it isn’t always the best choice for you. You may prefer a small format to avoid waste, a specific brand, a local product, a better composition or a more practical format.

Aukilo helps you see the gap. The final decision is yours.

4. Contributions and reports

How do I contribute?

You can contribute by scanning a product in a store, by taking a photo of a label or receipt, or by validating information suggested by the app.

The app may pre-fill some data, like the product, price, format or store. You then have to verify the information before validating it.

Why contribute?

Aukilo rests on a simple idea: the more users share reliable prices, the more everyone can compare correctly.

A contribution can help someone else avoid a bad purchase, spot a multipack more expensive than it looks, find a better price per kilo or correct outdated data.

The community helps make visible information that everyone sees locally, but that no one can compare alone at scale.

What happens when I report a wrong price?

The report helps indicate that a price seems incorrect, outdated or wrongly attached.

Depending on the case, Aukilo may:

  • display the price as less reliable;
  • wait for further confirmations;
  • correct the data;
  • hide the information;
  • request a new contribution;
  • account for the report in future comparisons.

A report doesn’t guarantee immediate removal of the price. It serves to gradually improve the reliability of the database.

Can I report a wrong product?

Yes.

If a product page is wrongly associated with a barcode, photo, format or price, you can report it from the product page.

It’s important, because a wrong association can distort comparisons per kilo, per liter or per unit.

Can I report shrinkflation?

Yes.

You can report a suspected case of shrinkflation when a product seems to have reduced its weight, volume or unit count, without an equivalent price drop.

Aukilo can also display the evolution of the price per kilo on a product page when available data allows comparison across several periods or several packagings.

Are contributions public?

Some contributions may be visible in the app, including prices, reports, shared photos or information useful for verification.

They may be published under your nickname or in a form that limits direct identification when possible.

You remain responsible for the content you share publicly, including photos or information you submit.

What do you do with photos of receipts or labels?

Photos serve first to pre-fill useful information: price, product, format, store, possible promotion.

By default, they aren’t intended to be displayed publicly nor kept long-term once useful data has been extracted and validated.

However, some photos may be kept for up to 3 years maximum when necessary for a dispute, community verification, a report, price proof, moderation or abuse prevention.

In case of a report or a contribution requiring proof, some photos may also be shared with the community to allow verification. In that case, you are responsible for what you share publicly.

Before sending a photo, avoid leaving visible personal information like a name, credit card number, loyalty card, face or any unnecessary private data.

Can I correct a contribution?

You can flag an error from the app when the feature is available.

If you wish to correct a contribution already published or request a specific correction, you can contact support at: contact@aukilo.com.

Is a report an accusation against a brand or a store?

No.

A report doesn’t constitute a legal accusation against a store, brand or manufacturer. It serves to alert the community about data to verify or a potentially useful comparison.

For example, reporting a multipack more expensive than the unit doesn’t mean the multipack is illegal. It simply means it can be useful to compare its price per kilo, per liter or per unit.

5. Shrinkflation and misleading multipacks

What is shrinkflation?

Shrinkflation refers to a situation where a product contains less quantity than before, without an equivalent drop in its price.

For example, a pack going from 200 g to 150 g with an identical price becomes more expensive per kilo, even if its displayed price hasn’t changed.

It’s a less visible price hike, because it goes through the format rather than the final price.

How does Aukilo detect shrinkflation?

Aukilo can rely on several signals:

  • reports made by users;
  • evolution of the price per kilo over time;
  • comparison between old and new packaging;
  • differences in weight, volume or unit count;
  • data available on the product page;
  • contributions and photos shared by the community.

On a product page, Aukilo can display the evolution of the price per kilo over the past months, as well as differences observed between packagings when available data allows.

Is it always an illegal practice?

No.

A format reduction or a price-per-kilo increase isn’t automatically illegal. It all depends on the context, the information given to the consumer, the product, the store and the applicable regulation.

Aukilo isn’t meant to legally qualify a practice. The app simply helps spot and compare changes in price, format or packaging.

What is a misleading multipack?

In Aukilo, a multipack may be flagged as "misleading" when it seems less advantageous than it looks.

For example, a 3-pack may turn out more expensive per kilo, per liter or per unit than three products bought separately.

This doesn’t mean the multipack is necessarily illegal. It means that the math is worth checking.

A multipack more expensive than the unit, is it necessarily illegal?

No.

A multipack more expensive than the unit isn’t necessarily illegal. The store can sell a pack at a price different from the unit, as long as the information given to the consumer follows applicable rules.

Aukilo simply helps see whether the multipack costs more per kilo, per liter or per unit than the separate products.

Why does Aukilo display these reports?

Because they help users compare more clearly.

A report can draw attention to a product whose format has changed, a multipack less advantageous than expected or a promotion worth checking.

These reports are indicative and rely on available data. They should be understood as a comparison aid, not as an accusation against a store or brand.

6. Subscription and features

Is Aukilo free?

Aukilo offers a free plan called Aukilo Freemium.

This plan provides access to certain features, with limits. Some advanced comparisons or features may be reserved for Aukilo Plus subscribers or require a contribution in the free plan.

What is Aukilo Freemium?

Aukilo Freemium is Aukilo’s free plan.

It allows you to use the app with certain limits, for example on out-of-store search, access to some comparisons or some advanced data.

In some cases, a contribution can temporarily unlock a comparison or piece of information.

What is Aukilo Plus?

Aukilo Plus is Aukilo’s paid subscription.

It gives access to more features, like broader comparisons, more complete access to some data, advanced tools or a less limited experience than the Freemium plan.

The exact features are listed in the app and on the subscription page.

How much does Aukilo Plus cost?

Aukilo Plus is offered at €2.99 incl. tax per month or €19.99 incl. tax per year, unless otherwise indicated in the app, the App Store or Google Play.

The applicable price is always the one displayed at the time of subscription.

Why are some features limited?

Aukilo relies on data that has to be collected, updated, verified and maintained.

Some features also require more computation, more storage or more available data. The limits help maintain the service, prevent abuse and support the development of the app.

Why do you sometimes have to contribute to access a comparison?

In the Freemium plan, some comparisons may require a contribution.

It’s a way to keep the app alive without forcing everyone to take a paid subscription. If you don’t want to subscribe, you can help the community by sharing a price, validating data or reporting an error.

It’s a form of exchange: you contribute to enriching the database, and the community benefits.

How do I cancel Aukilo Plus?

Aukilo Plus subscription is managed from the store where you subscribed:

  • App Store for iPhone;
  • Google Play Store for Android.

You must cancel the subscription directly from your Apple or Google account.

Deleting the app isn’t enough to cancel the subscription.

Does deleting my account cancel my subscription?

No.

Deleting the Aukilo account doesn’t automatically cancel the subscription taken via Apple or Google.

If you have an Aukilo Plus subscription, you must cancel it from the App Store or Google Play. Otherwise, the subscription may continue to be billed by Apple or Google.

7. Personal data

What data do you collect?

Aukilo may collect the data necessary for the operation of the service, including:

  • email or account ID;
  • scanned or searched products;
  • favorites;
  • shopping lists;
  • contributions;
  • reports;
  • submitted photos;
  • location or chosen area;
  • technical data;
  • information related to the Aukilo Plus subscription.

The full details are explained in the Privacy Policy.

Do you use my location?

Yes, some features may use your location.

It’s used in particular to identify a nearby store, associate a contribution with a store, compare prices in a local area or display average prices around you.

You can refuse or disable location in your phone’s settings. Some features will then be limited or less accurate.

What do you do with photos?

Photos are used to pre-fill some data: product, price, format, weight, store or promotion.

By default, they aren’t intended to be displayed publicly nor kept long-term once useful data has been extracted and validated.

However, some photos may be kept for up to 3 years maximum when necessary for a dispute, community verification, a report, price proof, moderation or abuse prevention.

In case of a report or contribution requiring proof, some photos may be shared publicly with the community to allow verification. You are therefore responsible for the images you submit and the information visible on them.

Avoid sharing photos containing faces, banking data, a loyalty card, a name, an address or any unnecessary personal information.

Are photos sent to an AI?

Yes.

Some photos may be analyzed automatically to recognize a product, read a label or extract useful information.

Photos used for recognition or extraction may be transmitted to Google Gemini.

Results may contain errors. You must therefore verify pre-filled information before validating it.

Do you sell my data?

Aukilo doesn’t sell your personal data.

No store, brand, manufacturer or distributor can buy your personal data to target you individually.

However, Aukilo may use or commercialize anonymized, aggregated or statistical data, for example trends, indicators or KPIs on prices, formats, categories or observed changes. This data must not allow you to be identified personally.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account:

If you have an Aukilo Plus subscription, remember to also cancel it from the App Store or Google Play. Deleting your Aukilo account doesn’t automatically cancel the subscription.

How do I exercise my GDPR rights?

You can exercise your rights by writing to contact@aukilo.com.

You can request access, rectification, deletion, restriction, opposition or portability of your data, under the conditions provided by the regulation.

You can also file a complaint with the CNIL if you believe your rights aren’t being respected.

8. Common issues

The scan doesn’t recognize my product, what do I do?

You can report a bug or flag the issue from the app.

Some products may not be recognized if the barcode is missing, damaged, unknown, misread or if the product doesn’t yet exist in the Aukilo database.

You can also try to search for the product manually or contribute to its listing.

The displayed price seems wrong, what do I do?

You can use the Report button on the product page.

Choose the most appropriate reason, for example wrong price, outdated price, wrong store or wrong format.

Your report helps the community correct the data.

My store doesn’t appear, what do I do?

You can contact Aukilo from the app or via support.

The store directory is built progressively with available data and user feedback. Some stores may not yet be referenced or sufficiently qualified.

The product is no longer available, what do I do?

You can report it from the product page with the Out of stock reason or an equivalent reason.

This indicates to the community that the product wasn’t found in the store concerned.

The local or national price doesn’t appear, why?

This usually means Aukilo doesn’t yet have enough data to display this information.

On the first contribution, some data may start to appear depending on location, product and the available reliability level.

For example, if you’re in France, a contribution can help enrich local or national data when conditions are met.

The estimated savings seem incorrect, what do I do?

You can report a bug or inconsistency from the app.

Savings displayed by Aukilo remain indicative estimates. They depend on available prices, compared products, your declared purchases, the formats retained and calculation assumptions.

They don’t constitute a real savings promise nor a contractual amount.

I can’t restore my subscription, what do I do?

You can contact support from the app or write to contact@aukilo.com.

Indicate whether you use iOS or Android, the email linked to your Aukilo account, and add if possible a screenshot or proof of Apple / Google subscription without sharing sensitive banking information.

You can also check that you’re connected to the correct Apple or Google account, the one used at the time of subscription.

9. Key takeaways

Are Aukilo prices guaranteed?

No.

Prices shown in Aukilo are indicative. They may come from user contributions, receipts, labels, drives, catalogs, open databases or public sources.

The price in store, at checkout, on the drive or on the store’s website remains the only authoritative price.

Does Aukilo guarantee savings?

No.

Aukilo helps compare and may display estimated savings, but doesn’t guarantee any actual savings.

Savings depend on many factors: available prices, compared products, stores, formats, declared purchases, date, location and the user’s final choice.

Can a brand or a store request a correction?

Yes.

A brand, store, manufacturer, retailer or user can contact Aukilo to request a correction or report problematic information: contact@aukilo.com.

Aukilo may request additional elements before correcting, hiding or removing information.

Why trust Aukilo?

Because Aukilo doesn’t rely on a single source.

Data may come from users, receipts, labels, drives, catalogs, open databases and public sources. It can then be flagged, corrected and enriched by the community.

Aukilo isn’t perfect, and doesn’t claim to be. Its goal is to make comparisons more readable and help everyone better understand the real price of their groceries.
